Tales from Elrond
Primordials are god-like beings insomuch they tend to possess great power and are nearly impossible to destroy. They are elemental power incarnate and normally get their power from one of the four elemental planes (Fire, Water, Earth and Air) or para-elemental planes (Ice, Ooze, Magma and Smoke). Primordials are rare and their individual interests are quite varied. Some seek to live in their home plane, others are content with floating the Astral Plane and others take a liking to a specific prime material plane world and reside there. For the most part they keep to themselves and do not get involved in the affairs of good versus evil, birth or destruction, and the interactions and politics of gods and fiends. They are content to exist in their isolated contentment for purposes only they understand, but sometimes a primordial will take a special interest in a world, a plane, a god, etc. and start to take actions to shape or achieve a goal concerning that plane, world or god. Normally the primordial’s actions result in death and destruction on an epic scale if left unchecked. When this happens, it falls to gods and powerful mortals to stop the primordial. Killing a primordial is possible, but highly unlikely and most primordials are stopped only by imprisonment or banishment using powerful magic.
On Elrond, historical texts point to the existence of at least three primordial powers that have taken and interest in the world.
- The Dragon
- The Leviathan
- Orao, The Firedancer
