House Rules

As of now, in order to keep the campaign simple, there is no multi-classing allowed.

Arduous Rally
This Matt Mercer house rule will be in effect for this campaign. It allows a party to spend 5 minutes to rally their resolve in the face of coming peril, the adrenaline fueling their need to push on. The party benefits from the completion of a Short Rest, but all healing gained by spending Hit Dice is halved, and all rallying characters suffer 1 point of Exhaustion.

Character Options Beyond the Player’s Handbook
While initially my intention was to keep character options as simple as possible by adhering to options available only in the Player’s Handbook, I am now open to allow player character Backgrounds, Feats, Classes and Races from the following books ( with the exception of the monstrous races). I still have some concerns about some of the material I am authorizing and reserve the option of forbidding these options should they prove to be game-breaking later:

  • Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide
  • Volo’s Guide to Monsters
  • Xanathar’s Guide to Everything
  • Critical Role: Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting

Character Resurrection
In order to make character death a little more “permanent,” characters can only be brought back to life a number of times equal to half of their current Constitution score. After which, resurrection can only occur due to extraordinary power, such as from direct intervention from a particularly powerful place or being, at the DM’s discretion, which will likely involved a quest of some sort. Unlike the older system rules, being brought back to life does not reduce a character’s Constitution score, but this will be tracked on the Death Count (see below):

  • Dovak (5 times)
  • Lester (4 times)
  • Aszh (1 time)
  • Severius (1 time)
  • Magnara (1 time)
  • Allegro (1 time)
